Resources

Eager to read and learn more about diversity, equity, and inclusion? Here are some of my favorite books in this space:

I'm white and struggling to understand how to be an ally to my Black colleagues, friends, and community members.  Can you recommend some resources?

Resources related to disabilities and disability inclusion

I'm passionate about disability inclusion and supporting workplaces committed to being increasingly inclusive of and accessible to individuals with disabilities.  For those based in the New England region, below are a few of my go-to resources:

  • Disability Rights Maine (DRM).  DRM's mission is to ensure autonomy, inclusion, equality, and access for people with disabilities in Maine.  DRM collaborates with people with disabilities and their supporters to enforce and advance disability rights through training, systemic advocacy, public policy reform, and legal intervention.

  • Maine Medical Center's Department of Vocational Services is a leader in the field of employment for people with disabilities, providing services to individuals with disabilities and also providing assistance and training to employers seeking to employ individuals with disabilities.

  • JAN Network is a leading resource for workplace accommodations and a treasure trove of ideas for employers engaging in the ADA interactive process with applicants and employees.

  • Alpha One.  Since 1978, Alpha One, a Center for Independent Living, has enabled thousands of people with disabilities to live more fully and more independently in all aspects of their lives.

  • PSLServices/STRIVE provides people with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental health diagnoses a community of support and assistance in finding greater independence.
